Reading during the summer has been proven to benefit children as they return to school in the fall. Even a small amount of reading, just fifteen minutes a day, can be a great help to stop the summer slide or learning loss that occurs when children are out of school in the summer. The Summer Reading Program at the West Fargo Public Library works to encourage children to continue reading and learning all summer long, so they enter the new school year ready to learn.
The Summer Reading Program typically runs from June to August with events and reading incentives for all ages. The theme of the 2020 Summer Reading Program will be Imagine Your Story, celebrating fairy tales, mythology and the fantasy genre. All Summer Reading Program events are free, but registration in the program is required for some activities. You can register at our Summer Reading Program Kickoff Party or anytime afterwards at the Service Desk. Upon registering in the program, kids receive a reading log that they may submit to be eligible for prizes.
